Description
One of the newest homes to join our portfolio, 159 US Route 1 in Falmouth feels like a private retreat that is also moments to the town’s markets, amenities, restaurants and trails. Nestled on a large half acre grassy, fenced-in yard, this 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath home has been thoroughly updated including hardwood floors throughout, kitchen appliances, granite counters, lighting, locally sourced linens, Maine art, a smokeless fire pit and newly constructed en suite from the second bedroom. There is a one car attached garage and plenty of driveway parking.
159 US Route 1 is available for 30-night minimum stays. We recommend this home to an individual, couple or small family looking to relocate to the area or craving an extended seasonal stay in Maine. Falmouth is a highly desirable place to live because of its proximity to the city and ocean, top schools, public green spaces and shops. This property is located three miles north of downtown Portland and has convenient access to both 295 and 95.
Living Space and Kitchen: Walking into 159 US Route 1 is immediately warm and welcoming. With windows placed to capture natural sunlight throughout the day, the open concept living and kitchen area is a fully renovated space that is comfortable and spacious. There are new hardwood floors, furnishings and local art throughout. The sitting area has a gray sofa and two off-white swiveling arm chairs atop a complementing area rug. A 55" Samsung flat panel TV is mounted on the far wall and there are room darkening shades on all windows. A glass bar cart is stocked with favorite wines and makings for a happy hour cocktail. A newly added photo cheekily titled “Bottoms Up” hangs over the cart.
The well-appointed kitchen features a white and gray veined marble-topped breakfast bar with four sleek wooden chairs and all new stainless appliances including a Wolf coffee maker and bags of our custom blend by Coffee by Design. There is plenty of storage in the custom cabinets and built into the island. We take pride in designing Apex kitchens so you are inspired to use them. We imagine what utensils, pans and serve wear will make you feel most at home and stock accordingly. Please take advantage of the farmers markets, speciality shops and producers who keep greater Portland in an abundance of delicious and local foods.
A glass dining table with four chairs that match the ones at the breakfast bar can be slid away from the wall for more seating accessibility.
Until the standalone home office is built, we added a small working desk with storage and a leather rolling chair adjacent to the kitchen, so you are never far from snacks whilst you answer emails.
There is a half bath on the ground level with a large granite-topped vanity and storage under the sink.
Bedrooms: Both bedrooms are located on the second floor along with a full laundry closet in the hall. Each bed is finished with luxurious and local Cuddledown bedding for an exceptional sleep.
Primary Bedroom: The “before” of this bedroom was full of dark wood and oversized furniture. It was a delight to brighten it up by painting the wainscot ceiling and walls with fresh neutrals and to create a welcoming space with modern decor and prints by local artist Sara Fitz. There are strawberry blonde hardwood floors and an area rug under the bed in peaceful blues and grays. The king bed has a soft taupe headboard and an abundance of comfortable pillows. Each side of the bed has a cream colored night stand with two drawers and reading lamps. For storage, there is a small decorative dresser (where you could add a TV) as well as a large walk-in closet complete with custom shelving and full-length mirror. The focal point of this room is an extended bay window that overlooks the yard and allows in ample natural light and breeze during the warm months. There are new room darkening shades.
The Primary en Suite is spacious with a marble-topped double vanity sink with wooden drawers and cabinets, a standup shower and a collection of lovely personal care items for your use.
Secondary Bedroom: This cozy room also got a refresh with new paint, hardwood floors, a handsome gray area rug and Sara Fitz prints. With a queen bed made with Cuddledown linens, double night stands and two ample closets, this bedroom promises a delightful stay. We took the remodeling opportunity to build an attached full bathroom with custom tile and glass shower here to increase guest comfort.
Outdoor living: There is a front deck accessed from outside stairs or sliding doors from the living room. We added a smokeless fire pit and four Adorondak chairs for year long enjoyment…there are plenty of beautiful clear nights in the winter when an outdoor fire is such a joy. The yard is grassy and encircles the home.
