I grew up in Maine living in Brunswick and spending summers in Harpswell. My childhood passion and commitment to the game of soccer led me to be one of the first women in Maine to play at the Division 1 level. That experience taught me that anything can be accomplished with discipline and hard work. It also inspired a desire to be a role model for other girls playing the game leading me to coach and give back to the community.

After graduating from the University of New Hampshire magna cum laude 3.79 GPA with a degree in Political Science and English I moved to Washington, DC to work for Merrill Lynch in the Private Client Group.

In 2000, I left Merrill Lynch to travel the world for a year before moving back to Maine to work for Fairchild Semiconductor where I managed the testing of all software upgrades. During this time, I began a masters program at Tufts University in Medford, MA. In 2005, I left Fairchild to pursue my entrepreneurial spirit in real estate and opened Apex Luxury Rentals.

Pastimes include running, tennis, snow-shoeing, reading a great book at the beach, traveling, and hiking with my yellow lab Mia. I have a passion for running and am training for a number of races, some of which will be fundraisers for worthy causes. I am a member at the Portland Country Club. I am an avid collector of art and have a keen appreciation of Maine artists that capture the rugged beauty of our state.

I am the Designated Broker at Apex Real Estate Group, a member of the Portland Board of Realtors, a member of the Portland Landlord Association. I enjoy working with investors who are looking to acquire property based on rational investment returns and provide the property management after the sale which is the real key to successful and responsible property ownership.

I live in Falmouth and travel often to Naples, Florida. Both personally and professionally I support numerous local charities including the Alzheimers Association, Camp Susan Curtis, Camp Sunshine, Winter Kids, Seeds of Independence, and the Falmouth Food Pantry.

I grew up in Falmouth. I graduated from Falmouth High School and attended The Leysen American School in Switzerland. I attended the University of San Diego.

I began working for the family business, Union Oil Company, where I was in charge of business development and customer service. I spent 17 years working beside my father to build Union Oil into a well respected company that was ultimately sold to Dead River Company.

That decision allowed me to focus on establishing a real estate holding company that owns commercial properties and operating businesses in Southern Maine.

I currently live in Falmouth with my family. Both personally and professionally I support numerous local charities including Falmouth Boosters and all the local sports teams, United Way, Camp Sunshine, Winter Kids, and the Falmouth Food Pantry.

As a lifelong resident of Maine, I have the knowledge and insight of the Greater Portland and Lakes Region area. I grew up in Portland and have been an active resident in Falmouth since 1995 with my husband, Jim, two wonderful children, Ryan and Julia, and our cute little pooch, Bella. We have owned lakefront property in the Belgrades Lakes and Sebago Lakes Region. We currently reside on the beautiful waterfront of Town Landing overlooking Casco Bay in Falmouth. My passion for waterfront living, boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding are a few of the reasons why I truly love living in Maine.

My other passions and hobbies include traveling to St John and boating in the B.V.I., reading, and spending time with family and friends.

My career path started in the hotel business which lead me to earn an A.S. in Hotel/Restaurant Management, and a B.S. in Sales and Marketing. After 8 years in the business, I ventured into Real Estate Management and Leasing in 1994 managing over 200 apartments. At the same time, I owned & published a local Leasing and Relocation Magazine. In 2004 became a licensed Real Estate Agent.

My passion for Real Estate coupled with my sales and marketing background have proven invaluable throughout my career. I thoroughly enjoy working with people, and helping them achieve their real estate goals.

My husband and I own Shinnecock Properties, LLC giving us the opportunity to renovate and build homes in the Falmouth, Greater Portland and Lakes region. Other professional achievements, education and certifications include being a multi-million dollar producer annually, a Specialist in New Homes, and Historic Homes & Architecture, Realtor Code of Ethics, a Member of the Portland Board of Realtors, Maine Associate of Realtors, and the National Board of Realtors.

I believe it is important to give back to the community through volunteering. A few of the organizations that I have been involved in are: Habitat for Humanity, Camp Sunshine, coaching and volunteering in youth sports.

I love Maine! I first visited while living in Boston in the late 1970’s. Although it took me twenty years to get back and buy a home, I am now and forever hooked. My husband and I live in an old seaside community in Falmouth. Summers are spent on the waters of Casco Bay, and at our island home. Our three labrador retrievers relish their year round swims in the Bay and the open Ocean.

I have been in real estate for more than twenty years. And grew up in a construction family. My other life, included twenty years in law enforcement, where I was an homicide detective and FBI profiler. In that career, listening, analyzing and evaluating were necessary tools for success. Today, I continue to listen to my clients, analyze their needs and evaluate the best real estate solutions for them.

I am involved with the American Heart Association. Am on the board of several schools, in Maine and Maryland. A member of the Portland Board of Realtors and the Casco Bay Island Development Association.

Kate Carey has over 20 years experience developing, renovating, marketing and selling residential properties. She started her career in real estate in the mid-90’s as an investor & developer in the vibrant historic commuting neighborhoods of Jersey City, NJ. She is a graduate cum laude from Smith College with experience in Studio Art and craft. This and and her career in Marketing at the New York Times helped her launch many successful real estate ventures for sale and as rental properties. It was there that she learned the instincts and skills to recognize and to follow trends.

In 2005, Kate moved with her family from New York City to Portland, ME, where she was involved in developing one of the early condo projects on the Portland peninsula — a 27 unit commercial/residential building on Congress St. Since then Kate has moved with her family to Yarmouth, where she co-developed the former Goff’s Hardware Store on Main St into a residence with commercial property. She has a daughter at Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth and a son at Hyde School in Bath. She has had kids attend Riche in Portland’s West End, King Middle School and Portland HS. Kate feels she is well versed with both public schools and private school options in the area.

As Kate continues to look for opportunities in Maine for herself and her clients, it has become her mission to help enrich the lives of others with the vast possibilities of real estate ownership, building and development in Maine. She focusses on the Greater Portland area.
